What’s the difference between a conservatory and a glass room?

A glass room and conservatory are two very extreme comforts and a great way to enjoy your garden. However, most people confuse these two structures but they’re very different in many ways, and we’ll now explain…

The conservatory is more similar to the living room whilst an outdoor glass room is frequently described as part of the garden but enclosed. A typical glass room is designed to creating a smooth transition to your house from the garden whilst providing unobstructed views. This is rather different to a conservatory, which is made of frames, yet a glass room is made of frameless glass panels which make it clear and more visible – and also a lot more modern! There are various glass designs that you\re able to choose from, and each will have its own way of transforming the room, whilst you’re able to choose folding portions that open fully or partially. It’s entirely up to you.

A conservatory is somewhat like a house extension, and therefore when built one must have a construction permit that complies with the construction rules and regulation whereas a glass room is an extension of the garden and therefore it does nota always need a permit like a conservatory. This may not be so important, but it is one of the differences that exists between the two, but you should always check with an architect before you decide to buy the materials and start building.

Another distinction of the two is the cost of constructing each; a glass room is more expensive when compared to conservatory. But when one constructs a conservatory using durable and high-quality materials such as aluminum and UPV C it becomes more expensive too, so always do your homework first on the materials utilised.

When building a glass room, you may decide to begin with the installation of the glass veranda and later add the other materials and this is because the design of the glass room can be easily fixed or installed once the veranda has been constructed. In contrast, a conservatory must be constructed step by step, and it cannot be extended easily at a later date.

In general, a glass room is a garden extension as opposed to house extension; it is designed in a way that it uses much of your garden and your outside living room. On the other hand, the conservatory is an extension of the living room, and it can be used all year round, like any other room in the home. If you’re interested in adding a conservatory or glass room to your home, make sure you do your homework first and start looking at designs that can work well with the rest of your property. Think about sizing, layout and materials and then if you find you’re happy to proceed, look into whether planning permission is required, or hire a surveyor to carry out a check for you.
